Chair yoga, a relaxation activity accessible to all

The practice of yoga dates back 5,000 years to India. It’s more than just a physical activity, it’s a way of reconnecting body, mind and soul and helping to restore balance. Golf d’Hardelot, located on the Côte d’Opale, offers you the chance to discover a new form of yoga: chair yoga. This practice is an alternative to yoga on a mat on the ground, as it is practised on a chair.

Why start chair yoga?

Chair yoga is ideal if you have mobility problems or have difficulty standing or maintaining postures without support. It is perfectly suited to senior citizens, people recovering from illness or those with reduced mobility. This gentle variant of traditional yoga helps to strengthen the muscles, make the body more supple and encourage deep relaxation, reconnecting your body and mind. Just a few minutes after the start of the session and after completing a few chair yoga postures, you’ll feel the benefits on your body.

Chair yoga targets different muscle groups in the upper and lower body. Practising chair yoga helps to prevent age-related loss of muscle mass. By strengthening the muscles, chair yoga helps to relieve lower back pain and improves the stability of the lower limbs. This is particularly beneficial as it reduces the risk of falls and injuries. It also improves blood circulation and prevents loss of bone density. As well as the physical benefits, chair yoga also has a positive effect on mental health. Yoga helps to reduce stress and anxiety, while contributing to greater psychological well-being.
